ABC of rising personality cult in India
Of late, a cult of personality has taken roots in India with the use of mass and social media for excessive presence and propaganda by leaders of all hues – may it be in political, social, religious, spiritual, corporate, educational, sports, entertainment or art arena.

The main tool is the use of unquestioning flattery, singing glory and showering praises through adulatory public gathering, aggressive propaganda, named campaigns, adulation rallies, stage-managed shows and totalitarian or arrogant attitude.

With the advent of electronic media, the personalised politics is being so much manipulated to create a charismatic aura. These days, mass media, such as FM radio, television and social media are being used by all kinds of leaders to project their almost divine image among the masses as never before.

The media manipulated notorious personality cults are also on the rise as shown by the recent cases of arrests of some self-proclaimed godmen and godwomen in India.

In the film, glamour and sports arenas, excessive public admiration or fan following for a famous person leads to an arrogant and larger than life image of the person.

Here is my ABC poem on personality cult.

A: Adulatory public shows and grand appearances of the person

B: Being in command for control of mass media for presence, propaganda and image creation

C: Cultivation of an aggressive crowd of sycophants for creating a heroic image
D: Denouncing rivals and making fun of them

E: Extravagant public demonstration of praise of the person by followers by evoking person's name for every activity
