Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety unseats Akshay's PadMan to become 2018's second highest grosser
The year 2018 began on a pleasant note for Bollywood with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's controversial period drama Padmaavat setting the cash registers ringing at the box office.

In fact, in the month of February itself, Padmaavat crossed the Rs 400 crore mark at the world-wide box office, becoming the eighth highest grosser of all time, according to a report from

However, the biggest surprise of the year so far came with the dark horse emerging victorious at the box office. Luv Ranjan's latest offering Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety which had released on February 23 has dislodged Akshay Kumar's PadMan at the box office to become the second highest grosser of 2018 after Padmaavat.

The box office success of SKTKS stresses upon the fact that people watch movies purely for entertainment and prefer light-hearted content rather than going for big names. With no bankable stars to speak of, SKTKS still managed to earn Rs 82.17 crore at the box office replacing Akshay's PadMan which had been comfortably occupying the second spot so far.

It is no mean feat for a small budget film like SKTKS to taste this kind of success at the box office. And what's even more encouraging for the makers is that the film is still going strong.

The film's official trailer posted on YouTube has received 22 million views so far.

Furthermore, the music of the film has been appreciated a lot, striking a chord with particularly the younger audience. A song from SKTKS which deserves special mention is 'Bom Diggy Diggy'. Sung by Zack Night and Jasmin Walia, the song has literally become an anthem and is today a regular feature at night clubs and discotheques. Interestingly, the music video of 'Bom Diggy Diggy' has received over 77 million views so far, way more than the film's trailer.

However, the Kartik Aryan, Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Singh starrer Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety failed to impress the critics because of the film's sexist read anti-feminist storyline. But Luv Ranjan wouldn't mind, or, would he?
